Two murder victims who were shot before being found in a burnt-out car in Sweden are British, according to local media.

After police discovered two dead people in the Fosie industrial area in Malmö on Sunday afternoon, they launched an investigation into a double murder.

When rescue workers responded to a fire, they only discovered the bodies as they tried to extinguish the fire, local media reported.

Rescue workers on site reportedly noticed something on one of the victims that could have been a bullet hole, it said.

According to Swedish media, both victims were British citizens and at least one of the victims was shot before the fire.

The Brits reportedly rented the Toyota Rav 4 from Copenhagen Airport in Denmark before it was found as a burnt-out shell in Malmö at around 2 p.m. local time.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the families of two British men reported missing in Sweden and are in contact with local authorities.”

Local police are interviewing witnesses and asking the public for any help. Interpol is also reportedly involved.
