Woman raped and killed for dowry – husband charged

The woman was allegedly raped on July 6 by three priests working at a temple in the Sheel-Daighar area near Dombivli and later murdered.

A married woman was raped and murdered in Maharashtra’s Thane district days after her wedding, allegedly over dowry, PTI reported. A case of alleged dowry harassment has been filed against her husband, PTI reported on Tuesday, citing police.

According to the PTI report, the woman was raped by three priests working in a temple in Sheel-Daighar area near Dombivli on July 6. She was later murdered. All three have been arrested by the police.

Following the murder and arrests, the woman’s father filed a complaint alleging that her husband and in-laws were harassing her over her dowry, an officer at the NRI police station in Navi Mumbai said.

According to the complaint, they even took away her child when she came to her parents’ house and visited the Ganesh temple under stress on July 6.

No arrests have been made so far in the dowry harassment case, the police officer said.

Thane: Two men kidnap and rape 11-year-old girl

Two men have been charged with kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl in Thane district of Maharashtra state, PTI reported on Sunday.

The minor was allegedly sexually assaulted on the evening of July 12 while she was walking to Ambernath railway station, an official said, according to a PTI report.

The two men posed as acquaintances of her father and grandfather and allegedly took the minor in an auto rickshaw to a remote place.

They asked the driver of the car to leave the scene of the accident and raped her, the officer said, citing the FIR.

The duo also tried to stop the girl from telling anyone about the attack by threatening her with consequences, the official said.

However, the victim fled the scene, went home and informed his family about the crime.

Acting on a complaint from her parents, the Ambernath police on Saturday registered a case of rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said, adding that an investigation was underway, PTI reported.
