Woman arrested for attacking police officers

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) – Cameron County Sheriff’s officials arrested a woman Thursday for allegedly forcibly pulling an officer over.

At 8:29 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a report of loud music in the 6000 block of Maverick Road in Brownsville.

The music was coming from an unoccupied Cadillac Escalade parked in the driveway. As officers approached the vehicle, they noticed open alcoholic beverages inside, a news release said.

Officers were attempting to locate the owner of the vehicle when a woman, later identified as Alejandra Mendez, came out of the house with a beer in her hand and showed signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech and unsteady balance.

Alejandra Mendez was charged with assault for pulling on a police officer while intoxicated, according to a press release from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office. (Source: Cameron County Sheriff’s Office)

The homeowner, later identified as Yesenia Quintanilla, left the house and also showed signs of intoxication.

While officers were questioning Quintanilla, Mendez approached one of the officers from behind, grabbed him and forcibly pulled him close to him, the press release said.

After the homeowner complied and turned the music down, officers arrested Mendez for assault for grabbing the officer and pulling him toward him.
Mendez also resisted arrest by violently breaking free. She was subdued and handcuffed.

She was taken to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center and charged with assault (a class C misdemeanor) and resisting arrest (a class B misdemeanor).
