Monroe Police Make Arrest in Coffee Throwing Incident at Dunkin’ Donuts

MONROE, CT – A 30-year-old Danbury woman turned herself in Saturday on an arrest warrant accusing her of allegedly assaulting a barista at Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 34.

On May 5, police were called to the store at 1:47 p.m. after the employee, a 17-year-old boy from Monroe, complained that a customer had thrown a hot cup of coffee at him.

He reportedly told officers there was a disagreement over whether she had placed an online order through her mobile app and it turned out the order had been sent to the wrong location.

According to police, the woman had asked for a free coffee and the employee had explained that he could not do so without the manager’s permission, whereupon she left the store.

But then the employee received a phone order from the same woman and was putting it together at the drive-thru window when she came back into the store and asked why he hadn’t prepared the coffee in front of her.

After purchasing her coffee, police say the customer walked away and then complained that the coffee cup was only half full. She allegedly threw the cup across the counter and hit the employee, causing hot coffee to run down his pants and onto his shoes, according to the report.

During their investigation, police were able to identify the customer and obtain an arrest warrant. She was charged with second-degree breach of the peace and third-degree assault. She was released on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 19.

Garbage truck accident

A garbage man told police he may have fallen asleep when his 2020 Freightliner truck went off the road on Route 59 near the Easton city limits, struck a 105-foot railing and eventually crashed into a tree late Friday morning.

Police said the 55-year-old New Milford man was not injured. He was charged with a misdemeanor for operating a commercial motor vehicle without a valid license and a heavy-duty tow truck was called to tow the truck, owned by Ness Industries LLC.

The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Officers remained on scene while Connecticut Department of Transportation personnel made repairs.

Drunkenness in public

A 78-year-old Trumbull man was issued a summons for disturbing the peace after allegedly causing a disturbance in the parking lot of Jersey Mike’s Subs at 143 Purdy Hill Road on Friday night.

At around 6 p.m., police were called about a man who apparently stumbled toward his silver Nissan sedan and almost fell.

When officers arrived, they found a man bleeding from a cut on his upper lip and with blood on his shirt, leaning against his car for support, the report said.

While speaking with the Trumbull man, officers determined he was intoxicated. According to police, he allegedly attempted to get into his car and drive away.

Due to the man’s level of intoxication, Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Services personnel were called to examine him, the report said.

Police said he was acting aggressively and uncooperatively, disrupting customers entering and exiting the stores on the property. Officers also realized he was causing a disturbance before they arrived, the report said.

He was released on a promise to appear in court on July 29 and taken to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation. Police believe his injury was caused by a fall. His Nissan was towed from the scene.
