15-year-old arrested after chase in Apple Valley – VVNG.com

APPLE VALLEY, California (VVNG.com) – A 15-year-old male was arrested in the early morning hours of July 4, 2024 following a chase in Apple Valley.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s dispatch center received a call around 3:01 a.m. from a resident of Tecumseh Road.

The 34-year-old caller reported that two vehicles had been stolen from outside his home. The resident suspected that the stolen vehicles were driving in circles or “doing donuts” nearby.

Officers arrived promptly at the scene and discovered the abandoned stolen vehicles – one of which had collided with a parked car. During their investigation, officers determined that the perpetrators had abandoned the stolen vehicles and entered a green Kia Soul that was parked nearby.

While responding, Deputy W. Ray observed a green Kia Soul leaving the area. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver did not comply, resulting in a chase that reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour and lasted approximately 11 minutes. The pursuit ended after deputies deployed spike barriers that effectively brought the vehicle to a stop.

The driver and passenger fled on foot, but officers were able to apprehend the driver, a 15-year-old Apple Valley resident. The juvenile was arrested and taken to the High Desert Juvenile Detention Center, where he was charged with 10851(a) – Vehicle Theft and VC 2800.1(a) – Fleeing from a Felony.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to this investigation to contact Deputy Ray at the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station at (760) 240-7400 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
