Granger man killed in car crash in Niles Township

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office reports a fatal accident that occurred Tuesday evening in the Niles area.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, emergency crews responded to the 3000 block of South 11th Street in Niles Township where a collision had occurred between a dump truck and a passenger vehicle.

Upon arrival, emergency responders reported that the driver of the car was trapped and not breathing. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the car exited a private driveway onto South 11th Street and failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming truck, resulting in the collision. The deceased is identified as a 69-year-old man from Granger. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

The accident remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
