Two people arrested in connection with a shooting in Florida

A man and woman were arrested Monday after a road rage incident escalated into a shooting in Lehigh Acres. Lee County officers responded to the area between Harlow Avenue S and 22nd Street SW around 5 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Officers spoke with the victim, who said he was involved in a road rage incident on Daniels Parkway and was shot. The victim was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center. Authorities were able to identify the suspects as Emanuel Merricks, 33, and Kyrah Harris, 29, after a witness at the scene captured video of the altercation. Officers responded to the area before locating the vehicle matching the victim’s description, a white Hyundai Santa Fe, and conducted a traffic stop. Harris was reportedly identified as the driver and Merricks as the passenger. Officers say both were arrested. Investigation revealed that the victim was driving northbound on Daniels Pkwy when the lane entered an intersection. After the intersection, the victim noticed Harris and Merrick following him and they appeared upset. The victim stopped at the corner of Gunnery Road and 23rd Street before Merrick got out of the car and walked toward the victim’s driver’s side door. Merrick allegedly said he was going to kill the victim. The victim got out of his vehicle and confronted Merricks before the two began fighting. The victim then got back in his vehicle and sped away northbound on Gunnery. While the victim drove away, Merricks retrieved a gun and fired shots at the victim’s vehicle, according to officials. Investigators say the victim believes the bullet entered through the left rear driver’s window, striking him in the left rib area. The victim continued driving before turning into a random driveway and asking a passerby for help calling 911. Investigators served a search warrant, which was later signed. Officers conducted the search and found Merricks and Harris, as well as a box of .45 ammunition. Officers said they arrested Merricks and Harris and transported them to the Lee County Jail. According to documents, Harris was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied vehicle and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
