MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Our morning downpour dumped between a half-inch and an inch of rain across southern Wisconsin. Madison’s total was at 1.24 inches by midday. When our second round arrives tonight, parts of the region are expected to see another inch or two of rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for counties along and west of I-90 (including Dane) until 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. These areas are expected to see the highest water levels in the evening and could experience flooding in low-lying areas or along waterways.

What’s next …

A line of thunderstorms will move in from the west this evening, bringing with it thunder and heavy downpours. We are not expecting any strong thunderstorms in this line, but the wind may be a bit gusty. The rain will clear out around 10pm and the rest of the night should be calm. Temperatures will remain mild, at around 18 degrees.

Wednesday will start out muggy and cloudy, but the clouds will clear up a bit as the day progresses. Unfortunately, the muggy weather will stay with us and temperatures will rise to over 30 degrees in the afternoon.

Looking ahead…

Thursday will also see a warm and humid start to the Fourth of July with partly sunny skies. The morning looks dry, but rain chances increase after noon. Right now, it looks like rain could move in along the Mississippi River right around fireworks time and spread eastward through the night. Hopefully the system slows down a bit so the fireworks can happen!

Friday will be cooler and wetter, with a higher chance of thunderstorms and showers during the day. The following weekend should remain mostly dry.
