Imo Assembly suspends four MPs over impeachment plans

Four lawmakers have been suspended indefinitely from the Imo State House of Representatives over alleged plots to impeach Speaker Chike Olemgbe.

The Speaker, who announced their suspension during a plenary sitting at the Parliament House in Owerri, the Imo State capital, claimed that the four lawmakers had brought disrepute and ridicule to Parliament through their conduct in various forums.
According to him, they repeatedly incited other members against the leadership of the House without any valid reason and tried to remove the Speaker from office. After a closed session, the decision to suspend them was taken.

The MPs affected by the suspension include MP for Ahiazu-Mbaise, Samuel Otuibe, and his counterpart for Ezinihitte-Mbaise, Henry Agbasonu.

Others are Chidiebere Ogbunikpa from Okigwe and Dominic Ezerioha from Oru West Constituency in the state.
