First Alert Weather Team tracks some summer storms ahead of July 4th – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team is monitoring some storms ahead of the Fourth of July celebrations.

First Alert meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh is monitoring some early showers across southeast Georgia that should taper off during the early morning hours.

Bedenbaugh also predicts a hot afternoon with temperatures between 95 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially north of I-10.

By July 4, this week’s afternoon showers and thunderstorms will become less frequent and the heat will rise to 35 to 40 degrees by Thursday or Friday.

In the tropics, Hurricane Beryl is a Category 3 “major” hurricane with winds up to 120 mph (190 km/h). It is approaching the Leeward Islands on Monday morning. Beryl will move across the islands into the Caribbean Sea by the afternoon, bringing life-threatening storm surges and heavy rainfall.

Yesterday, Beryl became the first Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic basin since weather records began in 1851.

Beryl is expected to remain in the Caribbean and move into Mexico with some weakening later this week. There will be no local impacts from Beryl.

Behind Beryl is a tropical wave that could develop into a tropical depression and move along a similar path to Beryl.

Tropical Storm Chris has reached Mexico and poses no threat locally.

Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team will continue to monitor the forecast and bring you updates throughout the day.
