Local family seeks answers after loved one killed in hit-and-run

A local family says they still have more questions than answers about their loved one’s death, and now they’re turning to the community for help.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A local family says they still have more questions than answers about the death of their loved one. Now they’re turning to the community for help.

KOB 4 spoke to the family at a candlelight vigil to remember the daughter, sister and fiancée they lost.

“A lot of mixed emotions, a lot of sadness, angel,” said Analisa Brill, Jeneva Salazar’s fiancée. “Sad because she’s gone and left like an animal on the streets with no one to take care of her, but she was very loved.”

Brill says she still can’t believe what happened. According to Albuquerque police, Salazar was struck by a dark-colored two-door car at the intersection of Harper and San Mateo in northeast Albuquerque. The accident happened around 4 a.m. on June 16.

Salazar’s family says they are still waiting for justice. Her friends and family gathered for a candlelight vigil Friday night.

Salazar’s mother, Cynthia Madrid, said her daughter suffered from addiction but did not deserve what happened to her.

“She fought her demons, she fought her demons, it makes no difference at all. She was somebody’s daughter, she was an aunt, she was somebody’s sister, she was somebody. She was a human being,” Madrid said.

Now Salazar’s family is asking the public for help in finding answers.

“We just want justice. We want the person who did this to know – I think as a mother I have to show compassion and empathy. If it was an accident, we need to know,” Madrid said. “If it wasn’t an accident, we still want answers. We need to know and we have a right to know.”

If you have any information about the accident, please call the police.

KOB 4 reached out to APD for an update on the accident investigation but has not received a response.
