Summerville Police to Conduct Drunk Driving Patrols and Checkpoints on July 4

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) – This Independence Day, Summerville Police will be conducting drunk driving detection patrols and checkpoints to prevent drunk drivers from hitting the road.

These checkpoints will take place on July 4 and 5 between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. on North Maple Street, Nexton Parkway, Brighton Park Boulevard, Sigma Drive, West Richardson Avenue, West Boundary Street and South Main Street.

“The goal of the Summerville Police Department is to ensure everyone gets home safely. These police enforcement efforts are attempts to reduce the number of drunk driving-related accidents and deaths on the roadways,” Summerville Police Captain Chris Hirsch said in a statement.

Summerville Police advise anyone who has been drinking to contact a friend or family member to take them home or call a taxi or rideshare service.
