Is THE ACOLYTE (SPOILER) really dead? According to High Republic Books, maybe not

The AcolyteThe fifth episode of The Return saw the shocking deaths of beloved characters such as Jedi Knight Yord Fandar and Padawan Jecki Lon. The episode also finally revealed the identity of the stranger who had trained Mae to kill several Jedi – Qimir, Mae’s slimy accomplice. Qimir presented himself as a humble and unassuming assistant to Mae. But as a warrior, he fought with a disturbing skill as he struck down each Jedi. His callousness made his murder of Jecki all the more disturbing, as he was not afraid to kill someone who was clearly just a child.

Of all the Jedi who fought against Qimir, Jecki arguably had the most heart. She bravely attacked Qimir, using both her green lightsaber and that of the fallen master Kelnacca. Using a lightsaber made for a Wookiee is no small feat, as the hilts are longer to accommodate her large stature. However, Jecki’s battle with Qimir came to a heartbreaking end when the Sith suddenly broke his red lightsaber in two. He stabbed her through the torso three times in quick succession. A look of shock appeared on her face before she slumped down, presumed dead.

For me and other members of #JeckiJam, Jecki’s death is difficult to accept. However, there is always the possibility that “dead” war of stars Characters are actually not as dead as we thought. With that in mind, let’s go over the evidence that gives some of us at #JeckiJam hope that our favorite Padawan will actually be okay.

Jecki’s half-Theelin ancestry could be the key to her survival

First, Jecki is half Theelin and half human. Her Theelin heritage gives her unique orange stripes and horns on the side of her head. Since she is an alien, there is a chance that her biology is not the same as that of humans. We are much more vulnerable to lightsaber wounds (remember Qui-Gon Jinn’s death in The Phantom Menace). Many alien species in war of stars have a different number of organs than humans. Or they have other things like healing factors that make them more resilient than humans. Cereans have two skulls like the Jedi Ki-Adi-Mundi. A Trandoshan Jedi Master named Sskeer in Cavan Scott’s and Ario Anindito’s High Republic The actor in the comic series not only survives having his arm amputated, it also grows back.

It is not yet established in war of stars Canon on how many organs Theelin have, and whether this is also true for someone who is half Theelin and half human. Since Jecki was stabbed through the torso, there’s a chance Qimir’s strikes missed one of her vital organs, depending on their biological differences.

I admit, this sounds a bit delusional, but follow me here. The Sith who mentored Palpatine, Darth Plagueis the Wise, was of the Muun species. In James Luceno’s Darth Plagueis In this novel, Plagueis is able to fake his own death after being stabbed through the heart because Muuns have three hearts in total. Despite one heart being fried, Plagueis was able to survive by playing dead and waiting for the right moment to strike. Although Luceno’s novel is no longer canon, that doesn’t mean the same couldn’t be done for Jecki and the Theelin species as a whole.

At this point, Theelinen had mostly marginal roles in war of stars Live-action projects (shoutout to the background singer in Jabba the Hutt’s hideout in Return of the Jedi). There is so much more that may about Theelins, which is one reason why Jecki’s death is so tragic. Whether Jecki is actually dead or clinging to life, this episode of The Acolyte is an important moment that establishes important points about Theelin biology in canon once the smoke clears from the battlefield. Hopefully Jecki isn’t the last Theelin Jedi we meet.

Bacta could save Jecki’s life in The Acolyte

Bacta technology was already considered new a century ago The Acolyte takes place, as in the High Republic novels such as Cavan Scott’s The approaching storm and Tessa Gratton’s Temptation of powerBacta is more or less a miracle drug that was first used in The Empire Strikes Back that helps heal wounds and revive people who are close to death. It also brought Boba Fett back to health in The Book of Boba Fettand revived Luke Skywalker after he almost froze to death on Hoth in Episode V.

During the era of the High Republic, The Acolyte takes place, Bacta was often used in the form of plasters to dress wounds and speed up their healing time. If someone with Bacta plasters got to Jecki in time, there was a good chance that she could recover from her wounds. Since Sabine Wren was pierced in the side of her abdomen, Ahsoka and has fully recovered (albeit only after rapid medical intervention), Jecki fans still cannot give up hope that the Padawan will come out alive.

Survival of lightsaber wounds is inconsistent in the war of stars universe

After all, the idea of surviving lightsaber wounds is at best inconsistent in war of starsThe best example of this is Darth Maul. The Phantom MenaceObi-Wan Kenobi brutally dismembered the Zabrak Sith apprentice. Maul’s upper and lower body fell through Naboo’s planetary core, seemingly into nothingness. And yet, as in The Clone Wars Cartoon series and then in Solo Maul later survived his severe injuries. In fact, the in-universe reason Maul survived the gash was because he focused all of his energy on his hatred of Obi-Wan. I’m not making this up. Regardless of what I think about Maul’s survival, I have to give him credit for escaping death by the power of hate.

It’s also worth noting that the two pieces of Maul didn’t end up in a state-of-the-art hospital by accident. He fell into a garbage pile and was later taken to a junkyard in the Outer Rim where he fed on insects. Maul, like Jecki, was only at apprentice level and managed to survive being cut in half and falling several stories into a waste bin that was probably crawling with infections. So I believe Jecki can make a good recovery.

war of stars is not, and never was, a science documentary. Astromechs chirp and beep amid dogfights in the vacuum of space. If you’re looking for some semblance of “scientific accuracy” in a world where an alien member of the Jedi Council has a comically long neck reminiscent of a cotton swab (Yarael Poof, you absolute icon), then you’re looking in the wrong places.

Nevertheless, there is plenty of evidence in the universe that gives Jecki Lon a chance of survival. war of stars Canon is constantly growing, especially for the period in which The Acolyte is taking place, there is so much that still needs to be determined. A key element of war of stars was always a feeling of hope. And I can hold on to the hope that Jecki Lon survived her wounds somewhere, somewhere.
