A 32-year-old woman was arrested in Minnesota after a body was found in her car following a single-vehicle crash.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that officers had arrested 32-year-old Margot Lewis on suspicion of tampering with a corpse.

The sheriff’s office said officers discovered the body when they were called to a “single-vehicle accident” in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 near the Highway 42 exit in Olmsted County around 7 a.m. local time on Saturday, June 22.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Eyota Fire Department and other first responders arrived at the scene and found Lewis outside her car being “cared for” by a passerby.

When police checked to see if anyone else was in their car, they found a dead 35-year-old woman in the back seat, according to the press release.

“The condition of the deceased was suspicious and it was immediately clear that death was not the result of the car accident,” police said in a statement.

Police have identified the woman but are not releasing her name pending notification of family. They also did not provide further details about what led officers to believe the woman in the back seat was dead at the time of the crash.

“The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the friends and family of the deceased,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

According to police, Lewis was taken to the hospital by ambulance and “medically evaluated” before she was arrested. She was later taken to the Adult Detention Center.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the incident.

According to local outlet Post Bulletin and ABC News, Lewis is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, June 25.
