HD Revanna alleges ‘conspiracy’ behind sexual abuse allegations against MLC’s son Suraj

Bengaluru: JD(S) MP and former Karnataka minister HD Revanna on Sunday termed the allegations against his son and MP Suraj Revanna of sexually assaulting a male party worker as a “conspiracy” and said he had faith in God and the judiciary.

He did not want to react to anything and said that when the time came he would tell everything.

Suraj Revanna – the brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of sexually abusing several women – was arrested from Hassan earlier in the day. He is accused of “unnatural offences”, police sources said. He was arrested on Saturday for sexually abusing a woman party worker a few days ago and under various sections of the IPC, including “unnatural offences”.

“I will not react to anything. Let the (CID) investigate. Who said there should be no investigation? I will not say anything. I have respect for the judiciary. I know what is going on in the state,” Revanna said.

In a conversation with journalists, he said: “I will not react to anything. I trust in God and justice. I am not afraid of such conspiracies. I know what it is, time will tell.”

When asked who was involved in the conspiracy, Revanna said, “I don’t know, you (the media) have to say – who, what. I leave it to you… You will deal with it, the judiciary is there. Suraj has gone (to the police), everyone knows what has happened in the last few days.”

Regarding Suraj’s complaint, he said, “I don’t know what it is. The time will come and when the time comes, I will tell everything.”

Suraj Revanna (37), grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has categorically denied the allegations. Suraj had also alleged that the man had filed a false complaint against him to extort Rs 50 crore from him. On Friday, the police registered an extortion case against the JD(S) worker based on a complaint filed by Suraj Revanna’s close aide Shivakumar.

Union Minister and JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy declined to comment on his nephew Suraj’s case, saying he had nothing to do with it and that justice would take its course.

“Why are you asking me about this issue? It is none of my business. There is no need to respond to all these things. The law will take its course… What do I have to do with this (case)?” he said. Asking reporters not to discuss the matter with him, Kumaraswamy said, “Discuss with me about matters concerning the state. Why are you discussing with me about this, what is the need? The law will take its course… why such cases, we will know in the coming days.”

Suraj’s brother and former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna is in police custody for allegedly sexually harassing several women. He was arrested last month after returning from Germany. Prajwal, who lost his Hassan seat in the Lok Sabha, was arrested on May 31 soon after returning from Germany, where he was in hiding after charges of rape and intimidation were levelled against him.

HD Revanna and his wife Bhavani are out on bail on charges of kidnapping and holding an alleged victim of sexual assault by their son Prajwal.
