South Tahoe police are searching for the driver of a stolen vehicle

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KOLO) – South Lake Tahoe Police are searching for the driver who crashed a stolen vehicle and fled from police on Wednesday.

Police said officers found the vehicle, stolen from Sacramento, heading from Meyers toward the South Lake Tahoe Y around 2 p.m.

The driver refused to stop for police and drove down Y Street at a high rate of speed. There was a crash in front of the BevMo and the driver ran away when the officers arrived.

Police, police dogs and the California Highway Patrol helicopter searched but were unable to find the suspect.

Police described the driver as a white male in his 20s, 5’9″ to 5’10”, 10″ tall, with short curly hair, wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

There is no danger to the public.

Police are asking the public to call 911 if anyone matching this description is found in the South Lake Tahoe area.
