Man arrested on Father’s Day; accused of killing elderly mother and burying body in apartment

A man is accused of a series of crimes that began with the murder of his mother near Philadelphia and ended with his arrest for assaulting a police officer in Washington.

William Michael Ingram, who has a previous criminal record, was also accused of damaging a police vehicle in Washington.

When he was arrested on Sunday, he told several officers that he had killed his mother, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said.

Washington DC police then called authorities in Bucks County, who went to Dolores Ingram’s apartment to check on the residents’ well-being.

Northampton Township police initially reported seeing “blood on a windowsill and additional blood on the walls, windows and floor” of Ingram’s first-floor apartment.

Also: “The furniture inside appeared to be in disarray” and “The living room appeared to be cleared out, except for a pile of clothing, towels/bedding, furniture and other household items on the far right side of the living room.”

“One of the officers began pulling items out of the pile and moving the sofa.

“As he moved the couch, he noticed a foot that felt cold.

“The officer noted that there appeared to be no signs of life.”

Authorities said the 82-year-old “apparently suffered severe traumatic brain injury and was buried under a pile of household items, including furniture and clothing.”

The cause of death is currently under investigation, but it is believed the murder occurred around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Police said “loud bangs” woke up a neighbor who “checked her home camera, and at 1:42 a.m. the camera showed William Ingram running out of the apartment shirtless.”

“He went back a minute later.

“Hours later, at 10:03 a.m., the camera showed William Ingram leaving the apartment. He was wearing a shirt and carrying a duffel bag.”

Police also said they found William Ingram’s vehicle in the parking lot, but not his mother’s car.

License plate readers indicated at that time that “the vehicle was driving away from the house.”

On Monday, 49-year-old William Ingram was charged with “stealing his mother’s vehicle. Additional charges will be filed against him in due course,” Pennsylvania authorities said, citing his mother’s death.

They did not mention extradition or a possible motive.

In 2019, William Ingram was stopped in Pennsylvania and “the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana,” Upper Southampton police said.

Then Ingram “attempted to deceive the officer by stepping on the marijuana and rubbing it into the asphalt.”

He was charged with tampering with or fabricating evidence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also driving without a license.
