Akron police identify suspect vehicle in deadly mass shooting

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – The city of Akron announced Tuesday that its police department has identified the suspect vehicle in the deadly June 2 mass shooting.

According to a city spokesperson, the suspect vehicle is a white SUV with dark tinted windows. Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling south on Kelly Avenue immediately after the shooting.

In the shooting, 27 people were injured and 27-year-old Lateris Cook died.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Summit County Crimestoppers and the U.S. Marshalls are offering an additional reward of up to $22,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and successful prosecution of a suspect.

“The Akron Police Department is working diligently on this investigation and this update brings them one step closer to solving this case,” Said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik. “We continue to encourage anyone with information regarding the identified vehicle or this shooting to please come forward.”

“This shooting has had a traumatic impact on the victims, their families and indirectly on the entire Akron community,” Said Akron Police Chief Harding. “For this reason, members of the Akron Police Department, as well as all of our partner agencies who support us, remain fully committed to solving this case and bringing the person or persons responsible to justice.”

As of last week, a 29-year-old man and a 37-year-old man have been in critical condition in local hospitals. Their names have not been released.

The youngest victim was 19 years old.
