Manhunt underway in Houston, Texas after inmate escapes

A manhunt is underway in Houston, Texas, after an inmate crawled out of a pipe to escape, held a prosecutor’s staff member at knifepoint before jumping in a nearby bayou.

At a news conference Thursday evening, Chief Phillip Bosquez of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said Nigel Thomas Sanders, 35, eluded law enforcement during his court appearance.

β€œIt appears that on his way back from court he may have facilitated his escape,” Bosquez said.

Sanders was in custody on charges of three burglaries and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, police said.
