Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium Set to Host 4 NJCAA Division I Football Championships

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — West Texas A&M University’s Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium has been selected to host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I football championships for the next four years.

According to a press release from the National Junior College Athletic Association, the stadium will host the NJCAA Division I football championships for the 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 seasons.

“I am pleased that West Texas will host the NJCAA Division I Football National Championships for the next four years at our famous Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium, the heart of our campus,” Walter V said. Wendler, president of West Texas A&M University. “Our partnership with the Amarillo Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Canyon Chamber of Commerce to bring this championship game to our region will have a significant economic impact for both cities, and as we make clear in our long-range plan , WT 125: From the enclave to the worldserving our territory is our top priority.

The WT stadium was recently inaugurated in 2019 with a total of 8,500 seats and an estimated total capacity of 12,000 seats. Stadium features include a video scoreboard, ribbon board system, Hellas Cushdrain field and a concourse that provides full circulation for spectators within the stadium.

“The NJCAA is excited about the future of DI football in Amarillo and Canyon,” said Brian Luckett, NJCAA senior vice president of external affairs and development. “West Texas A&M has incredible facilities with high-end features that will play a vital role in the championship experience for NJCAA student-athletes, coaches and fans.”

The inaugural NJCAA National Championship will take place in Canyon at 8:00 p.m. on December 18 and will also be televised nationally on ESPNU.
