Heat warning ends on Friday evening

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – The third day of our First Alert Weather days was hot and sunny, ending a brutal period of unusually high temperatures.

Our nighttime low of 30 degrees will break the record low of 27 degrees set in 1977!

The average low temperature at night this time of year is 76 degrees.

Although temperatures in most towns in the valley reached over 43 degrees Celsius in the late afternoon, they remained below the record temperature of 46 degrees Celsius set on Friday in 1985.

Light rain showers have been reported in the higher elevations of the White Mountains in eastern Arizona as a current of moisture pushes up from the south and rotates around the giant ridge of high pressure that has created this record heat.

Our heat warning remains in effect until Friday night.

It was quite warm in the High Country. Flagstaff recorded 91 degrees on Thursday, the lowest 90-degree day on record.

The ridge will extend east of Arizona, which should lead to a slight drop in temperatures and more clouds over the deserts over the weekend.

This advance also brings with it a slight chance of thunderstorms, mainly in the higher elevations of eastern Arizona over the weekend.

Maximum temperatures will remain below 43 degrees Celsius from Sunday to Tuesday, and it will get warmer again in the middle of the week.
