DC police begin clearing GWU protest camp

D.C. police began clearing the pro-Palestinian protest camp at George Washington University early Wednesday.

Police have repeatedly warned that those remaining in the camp are at risk of arrest, said police spokesman Tom Lynch.

The camp’s move came just hours before the district’s mayor and police chief are scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill on Wednesday about why they previously rejected university requests to clear a pro-Palestinian camp from school grounds. In recent weeks, members of Congress and university officials have increased pressure on the city to take action against the demonstrators.
