Vandal suspected of scratching 100 cars in Yuba City arrested in Sacramento area

A man suspected of using an object to scratch 100 vehicles in a Yuba City neighborhood last month was arrested in the Sacramento area, police said. Pouriya Sahand, 23, is accused of causing $175,000 in damage from the series of scratches on the night of May 4-5. Surveillance video shared with KCRA 3 at the time shows the suspect driving into the neighborhood, parking his car in front of a home, locking it and then going door to door scratching several vehicles. When he was done, the video shows him driving away, honking loudly and then driving back down the same street in the opposite direction. Yuba City police had previously identified Sahand as their suspect in the vandalism. He was taken into custody on June 1 after Yuba City police forwarded a list of possible locations where he could be found to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Sahand initially fled on foot from Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies, Yuba City police said. When he returned to his residence, he was detained by Good Samaritans until officers took him into custody at 7:20 p.m. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and will be transferred to the Sutter County Jail to face vandalism charges. The case will be turned over to the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office.
