Fatal traffic accident in Rockhampton area, police respond

A 36-year-old Blackwater man was killed this morning in a two-vehicle crash on the Capricorn Highway east of Westwood.

Investigations indicate that at 11:04 a.m. a motorcycle was traveling eastbound on the Capricorn Highway when it collided with a utility company at the intersection with Spring Creek Road.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 36-year-old man from Rockhampton, died at the scene of the accident.

The utility driver, a 65-year-old man from Blackwater, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit’s investigations are ongoing.

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of fatalities on our roads.

Data shows that the number of serious crashes can be significantly reduced if drivers recognize and avoid the “Fatal Five” behaviors: speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt, fatigue and distraction.
