Severe Storm Watch Issued for Southeast Texas, Hail Possible

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for much of southeast Texas, including the Houston metro area, until 6 p.m. Saturday. Victoria, Galveston, Beaumont and Conroe are also included in the severe thunderstorm watch.

As of midday, a group of severe thunderstorms could be seen on radar moving from the Texas coastal plains northeast toward Houston. These storms are expected to impact the region, particularly between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday.

The two main threats will be the possibility of large hail and damaging wind gusts. The most severe storms could produce hail the size of a ping-pong ball. Additionally, isolated flooding will also be possible as storms slowly move through Southeast Texas. The tornado threat is fairly low, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

The storms are expected to be scattered, meaning not all areas will even experience rain. The highest risk of storms in Southeast Texas will occur before 4 p.m. By late afternoon and evening, most activity will have shifted to the north and east.

Be vigilant and make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts throughout the day. If a severe thunderstorm warning is issued in your area, be prepared to seek shelter immediately.
