1 dead and 11 injured in weekend shootings in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) — According to police, at least one person was killed and 11 others injured in shootings across Chicago through Saturday.

The age of the victims ranges from 17 to 41 years.

Friday

At the first shooting of the weekend 41-year-old man was shot shortly after 7 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Loomis Street.

According to police, the man was near a sidewalk when two armed men approached him and fired shots. The victim was hit multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 40-year-old woman was injured in a drive-by shooting in the 8300 block of South Crandon Avenue shortly before 8 p.m.

The woman was near the sidewalk when a vehicle approached her and someone fired shots from inside the vehicle. She was struck in the thigh and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, police said.

Hours later, a 17-year-old girl was shot at a family gathering in the 800 block of West 54th Street around 10:14 p.m. She was standing in the street when a man shot at her from an alley, hitting her in the right ankle.

She was transported to the U of C by a family member in good condition.

Four men, including the victim, were taken to hospital. Fighting turned into shooting in the 4700 block of West Wrightwood Avenue shortly before 11:30 p.m.

The victim, a 43-year-old man, was outside his home when he got into an argument with three men he knew who attacked him. During the argument, the victim, who had a concealed firearms license, pulled out his pistol and shot the attackers.

All four were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition.

The perpetrators: A 29-year-old man was shot five times in the torso and taken to Mount Sinai. A 22-year-old man was shot in the chest and a 55-year-old man was shot in the neck. Both were taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai with blunt force injuries to the head and body.

A weapon was seized at the crime scene. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Two men, ages 23 and 26, were shot just before midnight in the 1300 block of West 13th Street.

Police say the victims were walking in the street when someone fired shots in the area. The 23-year-old was shot four times in the right leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The 26-year-old was also shot in the right leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Both victims refused to answer questions about the incident, police said.

  • At 2:59 a.m., two men, ages 44 and 33, were found shot to death in the 2400 block of South Spaulding Avenue. The 44-year-old was shot in the left foot and the 33-year-old was shot in the cheek. Both were taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition and refused to answer questions about the shooting.
  • At 2:30 a.m., a 19-year-old man was outside at 2100 South Western Avenue when he heard gunshots and felt pain. He went to Loyola Hospital in good condition despite a gunshot wound to his body.
  • At 8:19 a.m., a 40-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest in the 3800 block of West Monroe Street and was taken to Mt. Sinai in critical condition. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
