Former NFL safety and Georgia Bacarri Rambo charged with rape

Former NFL safety and Georgia State All-American Bacarri Rambo was arrested late Monday in Athens on rape charges.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that police responded to a rape call from Rambo’s Athens apartment complex at 1:17 a.m. Saturday. He was arrested and booked into the Clarke County Jail on Monday night and remained in custody Tuesday without a bail hearing, the report said.

The 21-year-old accuser is a student at the University of Georgia, according to the report. She called a friend to tell him she had been raped, and he called the police. She told him “that the perpetrator lives in Georgia Heights,” the complex where she lives and where Rambo’s address is listed, according to the report.

She said she knew her alleged attacker and pointed him to an Instagram profile with Rambo’s name, according to police records obtained by the Banner-Herald.

Rambo was recently on the UGA football team

According to the Banner-Herald, Rambo, 29, has spent the past two seasons as an intern and assistant on Georgia football’s support staff. Rambo played four seasons at Georgia and holds the school’s career record with 16 interceptions. He was named to the AP All-America team as a junior in 2011.

The Washington Redskins selected Rambo in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He also played for the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins during his four-year professional career, which ended in 2016.
