Man and minor arrested for sexually abusing 9-year-old boy | Mumbai News

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and his 15-year-old accomplice detained for allegedly sexually abusing a nine-year-old boy in a public toilet in a Mumbai suburb.

According to police, the incident occurred on May 1 at around 7:30 p.m. when the nine-year-old boy was playing at home with his friends.

“The 24-year-old went to him and called him under the pretext of doing something. He then took him to a public toilet where the minor was sexually abused,” said a police officer. The two accused fled the scene when the boy started screaming, police said.

The boy went home, hid behind the curtains and told his mother that he would never go out to play again. After his mother confided in him, he told her about his ordeal.

The mother then reported the incident to the police station, where a case was registered on May 2 under relevant sections of unnatural offence, assault, criminal intimidation and common intention of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children under Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

“We have carefully examined the video footage and identified the 24-year-old accused,” an official said. A team was sent and he was arrested on May 5.

“We have a picture of the minor suspect, but no one could identify him. We later learned that he had gone to a nearby shop to buy cigarettes and had paid there using a UPI ID,” an official said.

Police then obtained his phone number, used to track his location and arrested him on May 22. “We have arrested both the accused involved in the crime. We are trying to find out if they have committed similar crimes in the past,” an official said.
