Teenager arrested after raping 17-year-old girl in Knutsford

A teenager has been arrested after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped during a night out in Knutsford.

The girl was attacked in the city sometime between 11pm on Saturday May 11 and 5am the next morning, Cheshire Police said. Officers said the victim was in and around the city centre and the Mobberley Road area at the time of the rape.



In an update on Friday (May 24), Cheshire Police said a 19-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of rape. Since his arrest, he has been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.

A 37-year-old man who had been arrested previously had been “excluded from the investigation,” police added. He was released without any further action being taken against him.

In a statement on Friday, a Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Following further enquiries, a second person, a 19-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of rape. He has since been released on bail.”

“The 37-year-old man previously arrested has been excluded from the investigation and released without further action being taken against him. The investigation is currently ongoing and anyone with further information should contact Cheshire Police via the website or 101 quoting IML-1822074.”

Police previously said: “Investigators are currently investigating a serious sexual assault in Knutsford. On Sunday 12 May, at 9.08pm, police were informed that a 17-year-old girl had been raped during a night out in Knutsford, sometime between 11pm on Saturday evening 11 May and 5am on Sunday 12 May.

“The girl was in and around Knutsford town centre and the Mobberley Road area at the time of the incident. The victim is being cared for by officers and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

Detective Inspector Rob Lees added: “I would urge anyone who was in the town centre and Mobberley Road between 11pm on Saturday 11 May and 5am on Sunday 12 May to contact us and provide us with any information that may assist us with our investigation.”

“We understand that this may cause concern among the community and have increased the number of patrols in the area to provide reassurance.”
