Shooting during suspected break-in at church in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD—A shooting in Baltimore’s Southwest District is under investigation after a 59-year-old man was reportedly shot during a suspected burglary attempt. The incident occurred on May 26, 2024, at approximately 7:56 a.m. in the 100 block of South Mount Street.

When Southwest District Patrol Officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the victim had gunshot wounds. Paramedics were immediately called and transported the man to a local hospital with injuries that were deemed non-life threatening.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the shots were fired as the victim allegedly attempted to break into a vacant church currently under construction. Details about who fired the shots have not been released as the investigation is ongoing.
