Violent inmate in Uta prison: police officer and inspector attacked

A prison police officer and an inspector from Uta Prison ended up in hospital with bruises and wounds.

Another outburst of violence by a prisoner who attacked them with a barrage of blows. The policeman accompanied him into the courtyards and the inspector tried to intervene but was also hit.

The colleagues managed to detain the prisoner, who had no intention of stopping.

The two injured people were rescued and taken to hospital. The officer suffered a swollen eye, bruises and swelling on his face, and the inspector suffered a cut on his hand.

“We have no news yet about the hospitalisation of the two victims, but the first information we have is that they have suffered serious bruises and injuries,” explains Michele Cireddu, Secretary General of the Uil Pa Prison Police. “The sight of the blood-stained uniforms and the completely disfigured, swollen and bruised faces of the police officers is a symbol of the shameful state in which the police have to work.”

“The situation is untenable,” says Cireddu, “and has reached a point of no return.”

“The police officers working in the departments must be immediately equipped with tools, resources and protection to avoid further attacks and serious physical harm. And to do this, we cannot wait until the Greek Kalends. There are worrying scenes of violence taking place, we cannot wait until extreme tragedies occur to intervene,” concludes Cireddu.
