Former Berkeley County teacher charged with sexually abusing student

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) — A former Berkeley County teacher was arrested Friday for having a sexual relationship with a student, police said.

Dale Joseph Fox, 25, was charged with sexually abusing a 16- to 17-year-old student. His bail was set at $40,000, which was paid, jail records show.

An incident report states that North Charleston police received a tip from a Berkeley County detective that he was working on a potential case involving a teacher having a sexual relationship with a student.

The couple reportedly had a consensual relationship from December 2021 to February 2022. Fox provided a written statement to the Berkeley County Detective.

The Berkeley County School District said Fox was fired when the incident was reported on March 20 and asked the state Board of Education to investigate further and revoke Fox’s teaching license.

“BCSD leadership is aware of the arrest of a former employee and is fully cooperating with law enforcement’s investigation. When school administrators received information about a potentially inappropriate relationship between the employee and a former student, they immediately took action to gather additional information and reported it to law enforcement,” the district said in a statement.
