COLUMBIA, SC (WCBD) – Is your South Carolina driver’s license revoked? Now you might have a chance to get him back.

South Carolina residents who have lost their license for certain reasons may be eligible to visit their local South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) branch between May 20 and May 24 and have the remaining time of their suspension reduced or to cancel.

Drivers with the following suspension types are eligible for the SCDMV program:

  • Driving with a driving ban, except for a conviction for alcohol or drug abuse
  • Too many points for people under 18
  • Operating an uninsured vehicle or operating another person
  • Driving an uninsured vehicle that did not belong to the driver
  • Operating a taxi without a license

To participate, drivers must meet all exclusion requirements and visit an SCDMV branch to complete the appropriate application. In some cases, suspended drivers are required to obtain a certificate of insurance from their insurance company.

SCDMV branches process applications daily except Wednesdays between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The processing period for applications begins on Wednesday, May 22nd at 9:30 a.m.

According to the agency, processing will only be available at the Allendale and McCormick branches on Wednesday as those offices are only open that day.

Officials said the SCDMV will recalculate suspension time for those with more than one suspension.

The agency said it has sent notifications to all customers it says are eligible for the program. If you did not receive a notification but believe you are eligible, visit SCDMVOnline.com to ensure your correct mailing address is on file with the agency.

During the program period, drivers must continue to pay any required fees or fines.
