3 Phoenix police officers injured after confrontation with suspect

The incident occurred Saturday evening near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and McDowell Road. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — For the second time Saturday, three Phoenix police officers were injured in a fight with a suspect, the department said.

The most recent incident occurred near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and McDowell Road around 8:30 p.m.

Police said officers were called about a suspicious person who may have been setting things on fire. When the officers attempted to speak to the person, a fight broke out and the officers were injured.

All three officers suffered minor injuries. Two of them were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and the third was treated at an emergency room.

The suspect was taken into custody and is currently being questioned and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

The suspect has not been identified.

This came less than 12 hours after a man was taken into custody after allegedly punching and biting three Phoenix police officers near the intersection of 1st Avenue and Van Buren Street.

This is a developing story and more details will be added as they become available.
