Woman rejects love proposal and is attacked

VIJAYAWADA: State Mahila Commission chairman Gajjala Venkata Lakshmi on Saturday visited the mother-daughter duo who were attacked by a youth for rejecting his love proposal.

The victims, Sankranthi Pujita and her mother Santhi, sustained serious injuries when accused V Nagaraju attacked them with a sharp weapon at Vinjamur mandal village in Patur on Friday.

The Chairman of the Mahila Commission condemned the horrific attack on the victims and directed the relevant police officials to nab the absconding accused as soon as possible.

Accused Nagaraju has been harassing Pujita for several months and forcing her to marry him. On Friday he stormed into the victim’s house and attacked her with a knife. Santhi, who intervened to protect her daughter, was also injured. The police are investigating the case.
