1 person dead after car falls off cliff into Columbia River | Spokane News

CRESCENT BAR, Wash. – One person is dead after their car plunged off a cliff 1,000 feet above the Columbia River.

According to a Facebook post from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, on May 18 around 4:10 p.m., officers received reports of a car spotted on a shale slide 100 feet from the banks of the Columbia River. A witness looked at the car and confirmed that the person was dead.

The emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident in a boat from the Sheriff’s Marine Unit. They were able to safely remove the body from the car in the river.

Officials said the car fell off a cliff surrounding a radio tower sometime overnight.

Coroner Crag Morison is investigating this death. Deputies were assisted by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, Washington Fish and Wildlife Police, Grant County Fire District 3, Grant County Coroner’s Office and Grant PUD.
