Salt Lake City police are conducting a kidnapping investigation

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police arrested a man Saturday for allegedly kidnapping and holding a woman against her will.

According to a news release, the investigation began at 9:38 a.m. when police received reports of “suspicious circumstances” involving a woman and domestic violence in the Yalecrest neighborhood.

Through the investigation, SLCPD officers learned that the suspect, Daymian Martiez-Hughes, 51, stole the woman’s keys and phone. He also prevented them from entering a home near 1500 E. Laird Ave. to leave.

Police then secured the area and began negotiating with Mariez-Hughes. However, he did not leave the house and did not let the woman go.

Police requested assistance from the SLCPD SWAT team.

Eventually, police said Mariez-Hughes surrendered and released the woman.

Mariez-Hughes was taken into custody on charges of kidnapping, damaging or interfering with a communications device and interfering with a peace officer.
