The Huntington Park family is mourning the loss of 39-year-old Ana Rodriguez, who was killed in a hit-and-run on Mother’s Day

HUNTINGTON PARK, Calif. (KABC) — A grieving family continues to mourn the loss of a woman killed in a hit-and-run in Huntington Park on Mother’s Day.

39-year-old Ana Rodriguez describes her family as strong, close to nature and full of fun. She loved music and worked as a stagehand in the entertainment industry.

According to her family, Rodriguez was fatally struck by a vehicle around noon on Mother’s Day while walking her dog to the market less than a block from her home. The driver fled the scene of the accident.

“I only see it on TV shows. I never thought this would happen to me. Not my daughter. Not my beautiful daughter who has worked so hard to achieve her dreams,” said her mother Alma Felan.

“She was supposed to travel that night. Mother’s Day, back to San Diego to prepare for planning my wedding next week… I just can’t believe she was beaten and left for dead by them not 20 feet away. ” said Gina Hirata, the victim’s sister.

Rodriguez’s family has decorated all four corners of Hope Street and California Avenue in Huntington Park to spread their story and prevent a tragedy like this from happening again.

“I need to see change here. I need to make sure there is awareness, maybe a change in the speed limit, maybe more speed limits. I don’t know what the answers are, but I know we have to change this,” he told Hirata.

Huntington Park police said investigators arrested a person of interest in Anaheim. They also say they are looking for a second person of interest.
