Dalit PhD student moves Bombay High Court against TISS suspension

Dalit PhD student takes stand against TISS suspension: Ramadas KS, a Dalit PhD student who was suspended from TISS, has applied for legal aid in the Bombay High Court.

Indian Express reports that the student is demanding that the order be quashed on the grounds that freedom of thought and expression is a fundamental right of every citizen.

The TISS had suspended Ramadas for his alleged involvement in activities that were not in the interest of the country.

A notice sent to Ramadas on March 7 said his screening of the documentary film ‘Ram Ke Naam’ on January 26 was a “mark of shame and protest” against the consecration of the Ram Mandir idol in Ayodhya.

While participating in the protest in Delhi under the banner PSF-TISS, the name of the institute was “misused”, giving the false impression that the PSF had some connection with the TISS and that its views were supported by it.

He was also barred from TISS campuses in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati.
