Northern Lights in Houston: How to see them?

A historic geomagnetic storm brought a rare aurora borealis show to parts of the Houston area Friday evening.

Residents from Cypress, Baytown, Sealy and the Bolivar Peninsula posted photos on social media of the sky’s spectacular pink and green hues.

According to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, extreme geomagnetic storm activity returned to Level 5 “extreme” Saturday morning. They also mention that this storm activity will continue until at least Sunday.

People may be wondering how to capture this weather phenomenon on their cell phones.

TIPS FOR SEEING THE NORTHERN LIGHTS PHENOMENON:

  1. Make sure you are in a very dark place
  2. Set your camera to the north
  3. Set your camera to a long exposure time
