Hotel manager in North London raped woman and abused other people in her sleep

A hotel worker in north London raped a hotel guest and sexually abused other women by touching their feet while they slept.

Ahmed Fahmy, 45, abused his position as an employee at the Anchor Hotel on West Heath Drive, Golders Green, to carry out his sick offences, targeting two members of the same group in January this year.

On Thursday, Fahmy was found guilty of rape and three sexual assaults, one of which occurred while he was working at the Sunborn Yacht Hotel in Newham in March 2022.

Police warned on Friday that there may be more victims and urged them to come forward in the case.

Hendon Magistrates’ Court heard how a group of four women were staying at the Anchor Hotel when they became separated during an evening out and three of them returned.

When they got there, they realised they didn’t have the room key and Fahmy demanded that one of the women withdraw £80 from the ATM so she could stay in another room.

She lay down on the bed, fully dressed except for her shoes, and saw Fahmy licking her foot.

She told him to leave, but then she was awakened a second time and saw him doing something similar. The woman kicked him and again told him to leave.

Later that morning, the fourth member of the group returned to the hotel and told Fahmy she had lost her key. He maneuvered her into his bedroom, where he raped her.

The crime came to light when the women moved to another hotel shortly afterwards. One of the women was again separated from her friends in Regent’s Park and fell into despair.

A park employee called the police, but she could not tell them where their new hotel was. Officers suggested they return to the Anchor Hotel, where they hoped to find their friends’ contact information.

She then began to cry and told the officers that she could not return to the hotel because the manager had raped her.

During the course of the investigation, detectives linked Fahmy to two other sexual assaults that were not recent, most of which centred on touching women’s feet. One of these was when he sexually assaulted a woman on a date in Alliance Close, Wembley, in 2008.

Met Detective Constable James Gomm, who led the investigation, said: “Fahmy demonstrated a clear pattern of offending in which he abused his position as a hotel worker to get close to his victims and commit his crimes.”

DC Gomm praised those who told police about the incident, saying: “Your bravery helped put a sex offender behind bars and protect other women.

“There may be other victims of Fahmy and if so, I would urge them to contact the police immediately – they will be listened to and offered support.”

Fahmy will be sentenced in the same court on September 20.
