13-year-old and 14-year-old arrested after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) – A 13-year-old and a 14-year-old are facing charges after they led police on a chase in a stolen car in Valdosta over the weekend, Valdosta police said.

According to police, both teenagers are accused of theft because they took possession of a stolen vehicle, fled and tried to escape the perpetrator, as well as obstructing a police officer. The 13-year-old is also accused of two counts of possession of a weapon by a minor, police said.

Just after midnight Saturday, an officer was patrolling the area of ​​the 1300 block of Bethune Street when he noticed a vehicle driving recklessly in a residential area. The officer also noticed that the car had previously been reported stolen, according to police.

Other officers arrived in the area and attempted to make a traffic stop when the driver did not yield to officers and continued driving recklessly. Officers pursued the car until it was inoperable due to damage, at which point it stopped, according to Valdosta police.

Police said three people fled the car when it came to a stop.

A 13-year-old boy was quickly arrested by a VPD sniffer dog, according to police. Two weapons were also found at the scene of his arrest.

A 14-year-old boy identified as the passenger was tracked down by a Georgia State Patrol trooper, police said.

According to police, evidence was found linking the teenagers to other criminal activities.

The teenagers were treated for minor injuries and released.

According to VPD, the two were also held in a regional youth prison.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending, police said.
