Kentucky teenager arrested for attempted murder in southern Indiana

PERRY COUNTY, Ind. – A Kentucky teenager was arrested for attempted murder in southern Indiana.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, officers with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office responded to Rainbow Lake in Derby, Indiana, around 8 p.m. on Saturday after shots were fired. After a subsequent investigation, law enforcement determined that two people in the area had sustained “suspected gunshot wounds.”


According to ISP, one person was also slightly injured by broken glass in the incident at Rainbow Lake.

PCSO officers eventually located two vehicles believed to be involved in the disturbance. According to ISP, after the vehicles were located, a male juvenile was arrested and taken to the Perry County Jail. The boy was later taken to a juvenile detention center.

ISP reported that the two people believed to have been shot at Rainbow Lake were taken to the hospital.

The arrested juvenile police officer is now accused of six serious crimes:

  • Attempted Murder, Level 1 Felony
  • Aggravated assault, level 3 felony
  • Assault with a deadly weapon, severity level 5
  • Criminal Recklessness, Level 6 Serious Felony
  • Aiming a firearm, severity level 6

In Indiana, the maximum penalty for a Level 1 felony, such as attempted murder, is 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

PCSO has requested ISP’s assistance in the ongoing investigation into the incident. Police have not released the name of the arrested man as he is a minor.
