Wild turkey attacks car in viral video: Watch

A Boston woman was shocked when her car suffered significant damage in a videotaped attack by a wild turkey.

When Alicia Mastroianni left her Brighton neighborhood home on July 15 to go to work at Boston Children’s Hospital, she discovered a note on her parked car, which was covered in numerous new scratches, according to CBS News partner WBZ-TV.

“All the sides of my car were messed up, totally scratched,” Mastroianni recalled to the outlet. “I saw the note and I just thought, ‘Oh God, someone hit my car.'”

The note came from a neighbor across the street who helpfully recorded the incident and informed Mastroianni that the mysterious culprit was a turkey.

“(The note) says, ‘I just watched and filmed for over 15 minutes a massive turkey attack your car. I am sorry you were the target of this turkey tantrum,'” Mastroianni told WBZ-TV.

Mastroianni said she sent the video to her father and he “just laughed.” When she shared the wild story with her friends, they encouraged her to post the video on TikTok, which she did.

She captioned the video, which quickly went viral, garnering over 6.8 million views, “Moving to Boston… getting car attacked by a turkey… wasn’t on my list of things to be prepared for in the city.” She also tagged several auto insurance companies and media outlets.

The video — appropriately accompanied by audio that only says “Oh no, no, no, no!” — shows a large turkey strutting around her black convertible sedan, pecking at the car’s shiny exterior. At one point, the animal even flew up and kicked the driver’s side window.

At the end of the video, Mastroianni showed us how she inspected the damage to her car up close.

Thanks to the quick response of her neighbor, who filmed the turkey attack, Mastroianni was able to provide evidence to her insurance company and the damage is covered by her policy.

“Who would believe that a turkey would attack your car in Boston?” she told WBZ-TV. “You just have to accept it with a good heart and laugh about it.”

TikTok users also took to the humor of the situation in the comments below the video. One person joked that Mastroianni’s car had been “turKEYED,” while another quipped, “Any chance your insurance covers poultry crimes?”

Another person chimed in: “Farmers Insurance needs to do a commercial about this!! 🤣🤣.”

Massachusetts Environmental Police told the news agency that the turkey may have reacted aggressively because it saw its own reflection in the metal exterior of the car and mistook it for a rival animal.

The agency said people can protect their cars by covering them or making noise to scare away nuisance turkeys.
