F1 qualifying results: 2024 Belgian Grand Prix times – Verstappen incident under investigation as SHOCK driver is fastest

Early rain on Saturday caused a chaotic qualifying session for the Belgian Grand Prix. The track dried out, but some teams warned of further rain.

The teams did not have much time to optimise their wet set-ups in FP3, as Lance Stroll’s accident ended the session with a red flag after about ten minutes and the cars only returned to the track in the final moments.

As Q1 progressed, the track continued to improve – but not enough for anyone to dare to use slick tyres. This meant that by the end of the session, the timesheets were changing quickly, with Pierre Gasly at the top of the timesheets.

Zhou Guanyu also retired. Had he not finished 20th, he could have been at risk of dropping places on Sunday’s grid after the FIA announced an investigation into him for potentially impeding Max Verstappen.

Q2 saw more changeable conditions, with some rain arriving midway through the session, keeping the track in the right zone for the use of the intermediate tyres. Verstappen set the fastest time of this section of the afternoon and was able to sit back and relax while his rivals fought for position below him.

Here are the full qualifying results from Spa.
