Uttar Pradesh: Government suspends officials for school bus delay

The Uttar Pradesh government, in line with the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has continued its crackdown on negligent government officials and suspended an official for delays in issuing fitness certificates for school buses.

According to an official press release, “The Government of Uttar Pradesh has suspended the Regional Inspector (Engineering) and recommended disciplinary action against the Deputy Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) for delay in issuing a medical certificate to a school bus in Chitrakoot district.”

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has warned all officials against any laxity in government work. He has also issued clear instructions to enforce strict action under a zero-tolerance policy, particularly against officials and personnel involved in corruption and negligence.

On Tuesday, July 23, two buses carrying young children from Shriji Inter College, Khoh, Chitrakoot District were impounded by the team of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) as their medical certificates had expired. The buses along with the children were taken to the police cordon area of the Fire Station Complex, 10 km away. The vehicles were impounded at 11:15 am and remained at the police cordon area until 1:05 pm, resulting in the buses being parked for about two hours.

According to reports, Regional Inspector (Technical Inspector) Gulab Chandra of Chitrakoot district was instructed to check the fitness of the school buses at the respective schools. However, he did not follow these instructions and fitness certificates were not issued for both the vehicles. As a result, the buses had to be impounded, causing inconvenience and distress to the children.

After the incident came to light on Wednesday, the Yogi government took a firm line and took strict action against the officials responsible. Regional Inspector (Technical) Gulab Chandra was suspended with immediate effect as he was found prima facie responsible for the blunder. It was also recommended that disciplinary action be taken against Deputy Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Vivek Kumar Shukla in the case.

All employees of the transport ministry have been given strict instructions to avoid such negligence in future. (ANI)
