KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – Four people were injured when three U.S. military trucks collided with each other and a car on the A6 motorway near Feuchtwangen on Wednesday.

The accident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. near the Bavarian border, caused considerable traffic disruptions, said Chief Inspector Stefan Kull, spokesman for the Ansbach police.

Three soldiers were injured and are receiving medical treatment, said Maj. Javon Starnes, a spokesman for the 21st Theater Sustainment Command.

Military officials initially did not provide any information about the unit or the soldiers’ health status.

The 23-year-old driver of the car suffered minor injuries, according to a report in the newspaper “Südwest Presse”.

According to police, the trucks were not transporting explosives or dangerous substances. The US military police are supporting the investigation and cleanup efforts.

The accident occurred on the two westbound lanes between Feuchtwangen-Nord and the Feuchtwangen/Crailsheim motorway junction, around 30 minutes from the US military bases in Ansbach. Clean-up work was still ongoing at 6 p.m., Kull said.

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
