Rochester police report increase in car break-ins – ABC 6 News

The ABC 6 News team presents the most recent local, regional and national news events of the day, as well as breaking sports, weather and traffic reports.

(ABC 6 News) – Rochester police reported nine car thefts in the entire month of June, and 12 in the first two weeks of July alone.

Some Rochester residents seemed surprised by the change in frequency, saying they had never experienced a burglary themselves.

“I’ve had a few friends who had problems with it,” said local resident Brycen Gregor. “I’ve never experienced anything in this town myself, but I’ve always felt very safe.”

Although there have been more burglaries between this month and last month, according to the police, this is not an unusually high number for the summer.

To prevent such crimes, you can simply make sure to park in well-lit public places, remove all valuables from the back of your car or truck, and lock your doors.

If your home is burgled or you notice anything suspicious, you can call the local non-emergency number or post the report on the RPD website.
