Worker arrested for allegedly raping his step-granddaughter

JERTIH, July 15 (Bernama) – A teenager undergoing therapy for depression has revealed the heinous act of her step-grandfather who allegedly raped her three years ago.

The incident came to light yesterday during the 14-year-old’s therapy session at the local Besut Hospital, said Besut District Police Chief Supt. Abdul Rozak Muhammad.

“The hospital filed a report with the police yesterday. The victim claimed that she was last raped by her step-grandfather in September 2021.

“During the session, the doctor observed injuries on the victim’s hand that were consistent with self-harm due to her depression following the rape,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the second-grader at a school in Besut claimed that the incident took place at her grandmother’s house, where she lived after her parents separated, and that the suspect threatened her not to tell anyone.

The 55-year-old suspect, a labourer, was arrested at 10pm yesterday and has been remanded in custody for seven days to enable investigations into the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, police in Seremban yesterday arrested a man suspected of raping his biological daughter for the past six years.

The victim, now 24, gave birth to a baby girl in Gemencheh four years ago; the girl’s father is believed to be the suspect.

Tampin district police chief Supt. Amiruddien Sariman said the 52-year-old man was arrested at 10pm after the victim’s aunt filed a report about half an hour earlier.

“The rape occurred between 2019 and July this year. The unemployed victim did not report it out of fear.”

“The man has been remanded in custody for seven days to assist investigations under Section 376B of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement here today.
