One dead and seven injured in horse-drawn carriage accident in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One person was killed and seven others injured when Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a two-vehicle crash in Cumberland County Sunday evening.

According to the department, on Sunday, July 14, at 6:57 p.m., police responded to an accident in which a pickup truck collided with a horse-drawn carriage in the area of ​​2700 Cumberland Road.


There were seven people in the buggy at the time of the accident. One person died at the scene and the remaining passengers were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, which ranged from serious to life-threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the accident. The incident is currently under investigation.
